Auxiliary
fuel tank
Extra fuel for those long
trips
Long Range Automotive
have now developed a 58 litre auxiliary fuel tank. This unit is designed
for the GLX, GLS and Exceed fitted with/without antilock brakes and rear
air conditioning. A 81 litre tank is available if the vehicle does not have
rear air conditioning. A 115 litre tank is available for the GL model.
They use a Farley computer
controlled plasma cutting system. With this they ensure accuracy, providing
every customer with a high quality, precision made fuel tank.
All welds are full penetration
corner to corner MIG welded using a high quality inert shielding gas and
level layer wound MIG wire to ensure good penetration and exclusion of porosity
in the weld. This
ensures excellent structural durability, giving you years of trouble free
use.
Tanks are also fully internally
baffled (to prevent fuel surge) and expansion chambers are incorporated
in the design to allow for expansion when the fuel temperature increases.
All tanks are pressure tested and checked by separate quality control procedures
to ensure they are totally clean inside.
Only top quality materials
such as 2mm sheet steel, brass threaded hose barb fittings, stainless steel
hose clamps and high tensile bolts with nyloc nuts are used to ensure long
life and durability.
The tank uses the same filler
point as the main tank with a Y junction in the filler tube. A fuel sender
unit is supplied with the tank coupled to an electronic gauge installed in
the dashboard. Fuel is always drawn from the main tank and an electric transfer
pump is supplied to transfer fuel from the auxiliary tank to the main tank.
A switch on the dash activates
the fuel pump. A warning light shows when the pump is running. For safety
reasons the pump can only be activated when the ignition is turned on. We
suggest that you allow the main tank to empty until the low fuel warning
light comes on and then transfer the full 58 litres over in one go. This
takes about 30 minutes.
